I have a passion for and extensive background leading and developing innovative talent and workforce development programs and services for the PhD community of students and scholars in San Diego. I founded the THEKNOWN EXPERIENCE but was inspired and influenced to start the company by the hundreds of scholars and young professionals I had the privilege and pleasure of supporting in their transition to careers in diverse industries and professions.
Working for the last 10 years at UC San Diego (UCSD), I was able to built a large and strong PhD-professional network that extends nationwide by implementing a professionally-relevant, relationship-based strategy, providing value to the lives of PhD students, postdoctoral scholars, professionals, entrepreneurs, and Fortune 500 employers – to cutting-edge startups.
During this time, I founded and launched the Annual PhD Career Conference in 2008, a model replicated by several R1|T-1 research institutions across North America. Additionally, co-founded the Advanced Professional Degree Consulting Club (APDCC) at UC San Diego in 2009, which lead to valuable paid consulting work and internships for PhD students and scholars in San Diego (bolstering their CVs and résumés) solving “real-world” challenges for local organizations. Club leaders then establishment the popular Micro-MBA program for PhD students and scholars in collaboration with the Rady School of Management at UCSD.
To land your dream career, your first job is to make the unknown-known about yourself and every step of the search process. And there is no better way than working with an experienced career coach and connecting with individuals like you—doing what you aspire to do (i.e., your first “interviews”). Only then have you really started an effective job search that will lead to interviews, multiple job offers, and a satisfying career. – Joe Cribari
My strong employer and community relationships, has contributed significantly to the career aspirations and possibilities for talented PhD researchers. More than ever, they are making an impact solving many of society’s biggest problems.
Prior to this calling, I (while also completing my own advanced-degree) helped create an innovative research program and summer workshop at Northwestern University in 2002, and co-founded the Chicago-Area Undergraduate Research Symposium (CAURS) in 2005—now in its 13th, successful year.
Upon earning my undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Marketing Mgmt., I worked on marketing and pricing strategy as a trusted advisor to top consumer-product brands for Fortune 500 companies worldwide.
